The Graduate Program of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Myongji University has a history of more than 30 years with a masters course that was established in 1984 and Ph.D. course in 1990. Many scholars of distinguished talent, 219 master's degrees and 26 Ph.D. degrees (including foreign students as of September 2014) graduated. 16 full-time professors are fully committed to education and research in the graduate program. Our curriculum aims to cultivate technical experts with integrated thinking ability. The curriculum consists of Applied Mathematics I as a common required subject, a fundamental subject in mechanical engineering education, and other major subjects which students can freely select. Classes are made up of lectures and seminars that require discussions and presentations to lead students into deep thinking and creativity rather than an acquisition of one-sided knowledge.
Research topics of our graduate program include cutting-edge bio/nano/energy fields, top-notch defense technology, renewable energy, MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical-System), bio/nanofluidic engineering, and nanomaterial as well as conventional materials engineering, applied mechanics, control engineering, thermal and fluid engineering, combustion engineering, tribology, and production engineering.
Our graduate program has been carrying out research projects entrusted by various Government entities such as the National Research Foundation of Korea, Ministry of Knowledge Economy, Small and Medium Business Administration, Ministry of Health and Welfare, Ministry of National Defense and major companies such as Samsung Electronics, Samsung Science & Technology Foundation, and Hyosung. Many SCI/E papers based on the research results are published in many academic journals including high-impact journals with a impact factor higher than 5. The graduate program is earning recognition through excellent research output from domestic and international academic societies and is actively contributing to industrialization and commercialization of the research outcomes through cooperation with local communities and companies
Our graduates are vigorously making their ways into universities as full-time professors, major and mid-sized companies, national institutes such as KIST, research-oriented universities such as Seoul National University, POSTECH, and KAIST, and distinguished overseas universities such as University of Washington, USA and University of British Columbia, Canada. Our graduate program is now actively accepting international students from China, Nepal, Pakistan, Germany, and other countries.
